So summer is here and L.O.V.E. is in the air. Everyone is looking for that “RIGHT-NOW” person or even ready for a permanent lover.
Lately a lot of people are wondering where to find SingleWomen/SingleMen (i.e. http://www.thisisyourconscience.com/?p=2317 and http://www.followthel.com/2010/07/goodies-successful-black-women-are.html ), so we’ve sort of established how to get over this (i.e. jus approach /be yourself/hope for the best)...Let’s move on shall we.
You’ve found that special someone, changed your status on FB to IN A RELATIONSHIP, and ready for a lifetime of lllooooooooooovvveeeee…BUT WAIT!!!!! How do you make sure you go back to being a SW/SM??? Here are some tips that have help me and a lot of my non SW/SM make a relationship work:

1) Before you get in any kind of relationship, make sure you’ve had “ME TIME” and know yourself…I mean REALLY know yourself!!! You’ve taken the time to work on yourself and ready for love!
2) COMMUNICATION!!!!! I CAN’T EXPRESS HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS. If you can’t talk about anything with your significant other , rough waters ahead! Now with communication, it doesn’t mean yell/nag at the other person to get your point across; it’s really about listening/hearing/understanding where the other person is coming from/what they’re really trying to say. Men and women have 2 very different ways of communicating and understanding that you are different is def going to help you out!

WOMEN: don’t expect him to know what you’re thinking or how you feel…TELL him in a reasonable manner!
3) Be honest…not rude, just honest
4) Be open minded…a couple that grows together stays together. Find new things to get into, if you’re in Toronto, right now there’s always something to do…and a lot of them are FREE!!!
5) Show the love and never forget to express to your man/lady how much you appreciate them <3

I’m only telling you what’s been working for me (10 yrs strong) may not work for you for all but may help  Now go kiddies…get that love and keep it, cherish it!!!!!

Ode to Love

To the ladies and gentlemen looking for love, let me help you out for a second. I’m going to share a secret that’s not so secret.

You want to know why you’re still single. Why you keep finding the same “ragga muffins” all the time? Do you always find yourself asking “Where have all the good men/women gone to?” WELL… from someone that’s managed to be in a relation for 10 years I can tell you there’s a lot things that YOU need to do before you even start a search.

1. Are you happy with yourself? No really…ask yourself this honestly. Are you happy at where you are in life, can you look in the mirror and truly say you are satisfied with what you see??? If you said no, you’re not ready to be in a relationship.
How can you NOT be happy with yourself, BY YOURSELF, and except someone else to make U happy??? Those little insecurities are what’s going to sabotage the little hope your relation ever had.

2. Do find yourself bore most of the time or saying there’s nothing to do??? If you live in the GTA that’s a load of Cow manure!!! Get off your butt and go to your local community centre, park, SOMETHING and find something to do. Let it be getting on a local sports team, joining a book club or any kind of hobbies your area has to provide. There are a lot of posting at these community centres (better yet you can even go online u lazy farts LOL http://www.toronto.ca/parks/recreation_facilities/comcen/comcen_index.htm ; http://www.ymcatoronto.org/en/index.html ). Don’t be afraid to start something new, you’ll find out so much about yourself and heck you may even find love.

Now you’ve tried these and guess what you found a special someone. OH SNAP…now the real work comes in…you have to keep this relationship. The one issue that people seem to forget to keep a relationship you NEED to be able to communicate, have trust in the other person/yourself and have loooottttssss of patience!!!
You need to know learn not to dwell on the small stuff and look at the bigger picture.

Ladies: it’s easy to nag on the little stuff that your main squeeze isn’t doing, but how bout the great things he is doing? Make sure you also compliment on the good, this gives your man motivation to keep doing good and also shows him you appreciate him.

Men: try to understand where your lady is coming from if she starts attacking you with some nagging. She could have been having a bad day and sometimes the littlest thing you could do triggers something in our brains and we explode. Take time with us 

In all an open mind will save you ladies n gents…explore your surroundings and make sure you come correct before trying to find that special someone. LIVE LOVE LAUGH

Tour Life Pt 3: Pharoahe Monch

If you’re going to talk to Pharoahe Monch, you better be ready to just slow down, take a breath and listen. Anything but your typical hot shot, fast talkin New York rapper, Pharoahe speaks on his own time. If you jump in, he doesn’t talk over you. When he tells stories, he does it in slow, thought out phrases reflecting intense focus. Yet answering a question provokes an almost distracted look as he sifts through the ideas in his head before deciding what to say next. It’s an interesting demeanor for a man legendary for brash, in your face songs like “Simon Says” and “Fuck You.”

“He always got jewels though,” explains Joell Ortiz. “If you sit down and kick it with Pharoahe, he always got something to tell us. He always got a little insight. He’s very unselfish with that too. He’s always willing to give himself and his words of wisdom to a younger class of MCs in his eyes. You know sometimes we’ll be sitting there cracking jokes and Pharoahe will say something and everybody will turn and listen because he usually got some good shit to say.”

So I asked Pharoahe if he’d ever dissed another rapper and not released the song. After nearly a five second pause, he told me he was never into dissing people for the entertainment and “so if I dissed someone I would have to really have hate for them. And (pausing again and putting his forehead in his palm) I try not to let myself go there, because I have a dark side.” He delivers it with authentic uncertainty, as if he’s fully aware of the conflicting parts of his personality.

“That’s the type of dude he is,” explains DJ Dames Nellas. “You can tell he’s on a next level of thinking. He doesn’t see shit the way you and I would see shit. He’s on some next spiritual involvement where it’ll take him away.”

Yet even as his words are spoken softly, Pharoahe’s stage show is explosive and passionate. You can count on “Simon Says” every night to blow the top off the party. With his left t-shirt sleeve rolled up, he anchors the center of the stage as his hype man and singer Showtime dances around, behind and beside him. He claims the stage like a true veteran and by the middle of his set has total control over every crowd. It’s evident; he’s transformed by his element.

On tour, he’s quiet, but you always know he’s there.

“P was cool though,” explains DJ Dames Nellas. “He was more or less just there the entire time. P reminds me of that dude that rolls in your click that’s just always there. Always down for anything. Anything going down, P going to be there. You might not necessarily know he’s there but he’s there.”

I witnessed that first hand in Whistler when Pharoahe suddenly appeared next to me outside the 7/11. No security, no entourage, just a humble man looking for breakfast.

“We call him the wizard,” says Royce Da 5’9. “He’s like a wizard, man. He knows everything!”

“He always speaks like it’s his last breath (imitates Godfather croaking voice) ‘One time….in Aspen,’” jokes Joell Ortiz. “And he always gotta make you do something, ‘Yo reach over there and pass me that (imitating Pharoahe).’”

It seemed the more I heard about Pharoahe, the more I realized the pieces we get through his music are really just the tip of the iceberg. There’s an entirely different beast below the surface.

Tour Life Pt 2: Peter Jackson

“I just want this so bad,” says Peter Jackson. It’s almost 4 a.m. in Whistler, British Columbia as he sits on the hotel balcony, trying to wind down. It’s been a turbulent tour for the young rapper. Riding on the tour bus with Slaughterhouse and Pharoahe Monch means he’s been isolated from the rest of the crew. He found out mid-way through the tour that one of his close friends was arrested for a violent crime. And earlier that night he was shaken by a heated argument with Concrete Guerilla Clothing owner Duxx. His will has definitely been tested. And interestingly enough, that is exactly what he prides himself on.
“I might not be the best lyricist, but I swear I want it more than anyone doing it,” he says with vulnerable passion in his voice. He looks out towards the mountains and then down at the floor, deep in thought with his hands on his head. He’s struggling to make sense of things. And with so much going on – an album on the way, several videos in production, a distribution deal with Fontana, a new boutique label (Richmond Street Records) and his first tour since a near fatal car crash ended his time on with Tech N9ne in March – who can blame him for showing his emotions.
Peter Jackson started his run back in Durham, Ontario years ago. I met him during my days at Crack House Radio when he’d drop in to promote his latest show at The Big Sexy in Oshawa. Joe Budden, Wu Tang, KRS One and the list goes on – Peter Jackson is the face of hip hop events east of Toronto.
He’d often purchase the Durham date of any given tour, sell tickets and make himself and his crew 90Nickel the opening acts. With so much invested into each show, it was a risky method of getting attention, but it worked. Since then, he’s toured the country five times with Naughty By Nature, Tech N9ne, D12, Busta Rhymes and Akon. It’s been in large part due to his growing relationship with booking agent Chris McKee, who met Jackson after he won a contest that promised a contract with the McKee Agency.
“I get a phone call from this artist in Oshawa saying ‘Ya I won this contest. When are we going on tour?” says Mckee. “I just liked how they were hungry. I was like ‘well I’m not going to put you on tour, but send me your music and lets keep in contact and I’ll see where we can do some stuff together.”
Jackson started buying the aforementioned shows on McKee Agency tours. By November 2008, Mckee placed Jackson on the Never Say Never Tour with Royce Da 5’9, Joe Budden, D12 & Classified.
“I got nothing but good reviews from club owners that they were good people, the [club owners] loved the show, they didn’t give them a hard time,” says Mckee.As the relationship grew, Jackson would later invite McKee to be his manager as well.
Fast forward to 2010, a make or break year for Jackson. His debut album “In My Life” is slated for summer and his new single “Ma Ma” featuring Die Mannequin is weeks away from release at the time of tour.

“This is such a personal song and I’m so happy it can be my first single,” says Jackson back at his Durham studio prior to tour. Referring to Die Mannequin lead singer Care Failure, Jackson jokes “This girl is like Cher with death written across her forehead.”
On tour, the single is consistently the most potent part of his set. Along with DJ Dames Nellas, Jackson invites the crowds to put their lighters in the air before the intense, soulful hook blares “My mama told me when I was young…Just take your time child, life has just begun.”
And just as the intensity builds, the crowd can finally reach out and touch the Peter Jackson he seems more ready to show them. The lyrics bear family references and somber, reflective tones which often energize the crowd to share in the lighter-illuminated atmosphere. And forging this connection with his audience is key for an artists banking on his intense tour grind to fuel interest in his debut album. Because while his hustle is becoming notorious, the connection between him and his fans is still building. And ultimately, Peter Jackson admits this is one of the most important songs he’s ever written.

They began the Tour in Toronto and ended in Vancouver, where at every stop they sold th fabo tees!!

Logiq, from haiti, came to Toronto in 06 and decided to go full time with his music. Has become the founder and CEO of OOMG (read as: Double O Music Group) which is an independent record label and production company.
Just listening to this track (The One)you get that feel good beat with some serious lyrics!!!

"I'm not a rapper, i'm a LYRICIST on nice beats! Run tell that!"<---LOVES IT!!!!! a line he uses and really sets him apart from the rest. watch out for him!

We need to do better!

In 2000, Theology (Toronto Rapper) coined the phrase “SCREWFACE CAPITAL” and it seems we have taken this expression and using it as a way of life.
We walk around with our noses in the air not caring about anyone or anything unless it has to do with us. We’ve turned very selfish and feel that we are too cool to acknowledge anything.
This phrase has corrupted our city and we are suffering as a city!!
Looking from the outside in, we’re a multicultural city with such beautiful people, places and cultures. You would swear we would be a “KUMBAYA” type of city…NEGATIVE, we’re far from it. People are too quick to shut new things down and walk with blinders.

The ones affected by this the most is our hip-hop community! The word SUPPORT doesn’t exist in most of our vocabulary. You look at all the different cities in the US and you see how artist come together and support one an other…even the females know how to do this (ATL is a great example). Most Toronto artist feel they’re “too big” to collaborate with others and most citizens only feel to support their own family members...or will start supporting when they know the person is not unknown (ie. Drake—where were the fans on his first album or during Degrassi days??????????lol)

There are the few trying to shake this negative mind set, Canadian Indie Movement is one great one for the hip hop community, having monthly showcases in downtown Toronto and people come to support ALL artist and get to jam out with them after to REALLY NETWORK!!!!
I know we have the capability to come together and squash this stigma that we’re cold like the North Pole…Toronto, WE NEED TO DO BETTER!

For the hip hop community it could be hard to get anywhere with the stigma "ScrewFace Capital" stuck with many narrow minded people...

She speaks the truth, what she has physically, emotionally, sexually been through. doesnt try to pain t a picture of something that isnt real!!! she captures u with her voices then slices u with the words...this lady kills the mic with such class.

What is Beauty??????

Soooooo after watching this, i had to COMPLETELY agree with the last girl speaking!

The "Industry" has all these rules about what's beautiful and why they have it like that, and they know it's the wrong perception but aren't doing anything about it.
If dark skinned women are only seen if they have big hips big booty then what does that tell us? Black women are only beautiful below the belt?? or that they don't have pretty enough faces???

in the clip above you see numerous people saying having a light skin girl takes the viewer on a trip/dreamlike to what they really like! Really??? i don't dream about a light skinned girl!!!! not trying to hate on light skinned girls, because they are beautiful in their own way (as are ALL shades and colours)but when i image the perfect video i see MYSELF COT DAMMIT,lol. I see a dark skinned girl and i see them focusing on HER FACE!! Her beautiful dark chocolate complexion, how when the light hits her skin a beautiful shine appears (you can't get that with any other races). In my 'dream video' I see the artist and the beautiful dark skinned Queen being in love and actually showing affection (you never see a dark skinned girl casted as the 'Main Chick').
But the 'Industry' says Light skinned girls are what people really want to see. The most of only surveyed White and light skinned people.

NOW...if this is such a problem i say the artists and their management NEED to stand up and say something to change these perceptions!! We can talk talk talk but if nothing is being done it's just wasted air!! So artists and their management...I CHALLENGE YOU TO CHANGE AND SHOW THAT BEAUTY COMES IN EVERY COLOUR, SHADES, SHAPES,etc...

This is also the reason i started TORONTO'S CHEERLEADERS. I'm was sick of seeing cliques within the 'Industry' and seeing that people only supported people they personally knew. I was sick of seeing people with talent being pushed to side as people with NO TALENT and $$$ get the spotlight! I want to support all of Toronto art and let the artists that truly have talent that someone is their supporting them to the top and appreciates their gift!! join me on this journey yall! Smile at a stranger and spread love. OPEN YOUR MIND TO ALL BEAUTIFUL THINGS LIFE HAS TO OFFER AND STOP THINKING THINGS SHOULD ONLY BE A CERTAIN WAY...nobody ever wrote a book on how ISH should be, don't think follow but create ur own way lovelies. EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL (could be in looks, personality, through their talent)...

So seeing how EVERYONE and their mothers was tweetin about the Grammys and all looking forward to Drake's performance only showed me Toronto is able to show love and support one another. Of course we had the selected few that we calling out "dick riders" but we know those r the ones that have lil black hearts and need to let love in (please don't get me started on those people, LOL).

This only motivated me to keep being an advocate of Love! As long as we keep showing the world what beautiful talent we have to offer the more imma be around supporting EACH and EVERYONE of you doing your thing. Even if I don't know you personally I will be reppin you and what you do...Y? Because you deserve to be loved and supported, and if um own people won't do it, who the hell will??????? I'm here for you Toronto, will never turn my back on you! Stay fly and creative :)

k...so one of my besties n i were talkin about a friend of hers thats going thru some fukked up ish (i dont like swearing but im very angered right now).
so the situation is this...our boy has a child with this chik, and ive never seen a man sooooo in love with a child (besides my hubby)and want to become a better man because of his child. now, he's not with the baby's mother for issues that are between them. The issue is she's using those issues to not let him see his child!!!!!! WTF.

k, women have been fighting THE DEAD BEAT DAD to take care of their kids...this chik is keeping a man that WANTS to be with his child because he doesnt want to be with him. again WTF!!!

Ladies, if ur gonna do the grown thing and have a child by a man, be ready to make some adult decisions and stop acting like children!!!!

Dear, Kellogg’s.
I’m writing this letter to express my disappointment in your company in firing Michael Phelps as a spokesperson for your products because he was photographed while enjoying some marijuana.
I respectfully would like to communicate my opinion on this matter because I think it’s of great public interest.
First of all, although it is true that Mr. Phelps broke the law, I think any reasonably intelligent person would admit that it’s one of the most fucked up and corrupt laws that we have today in this country. Marijuana is relatively harmless and certainly far less dangerous than a host of other things that are not only legal but also readily available, like alcohol and prescription drugs. The only reason it remains illegal to this day is because it’s a plant and you can’t patent it and control it’s sale, and because if it were legal it would greatly affect the demand for a host of prescription drugs that rake in billions of dollars each year for pharmaceutical companies.
That’s it.
Marijuana has never killed anyone EVER in over 10,000 years of use. We’re not protecting people from themselves, we’re not saving the children - it’s just a horribly illogical law that is in place because of corruption and propaganda.
The fact that it’s against the law is just a disgusting reminder of how retarded our system is, not a reasonable reaction to a proven threat to society.

I have to say, this whole thing saddens me, because I personally would like to think that as Americans we’re better than this. These television news anchors will shake their heads at the thoughtless mistake Mr. Phelps had made by “smoking dope,” and then without even the tiniest sense of irony they will cut to a beer commercial.
This is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave, right? We’re not supposed to be a nation of little bitches giving in to the whims of corrupt politicians and the pharmaceutical companies whose interests they’re representing.
It’s 2009, and in this day and age with the incredible access to information that we have available there’s no fucking way that we should be allowing human beings to tell other human beings that they can’t do something that they enjoy that hurts no one including themselves.
THAT is madness. THAT is ignorant, and THAT is completely fucking un-American.
I don’t want to hear any of that, “he’s setting a bad example with the children” nonsense either, because we all know if he had a gin and tonic in his hand instead of a bong this would never have been an issue, even though every single study ever done has shown that marijuana is FAR less dangerous than alcohol.
Marijuana laws are a horrible waste of resources and law enforcement, and especially in this day and age with our economy in such horrible shape I believe the last thing we need to be doing is wasting tax payers’ money on any of this victimless bullshit.

I find your reactions to Mr. Phelps situation both ignorant and short sighted.
I think what would have been a far better response from Kellogg’s would be to support Mr. Phelps, and perhaps point out that maybe we as a society should take a closer look at the evidence and possibly reconsider our position on this misunderstood plant that so many of our productive citizens find useful.
Now, I’m sure if you really were running Kellogg’s and you were still reading my bullshit all the way down to this, you must be thinking, “Why the hell would we stick our necks out like that for pot smokers?”

And of course the answer to that question would be, because we buy your shit, motherfucker.
Do you guys even know your consumer statistics? Well, let me fill you in on some of my own personal scientific research on the subject, because I have been closely studying my own purchases for over 20 years, and I can tell you that I’ve been high 100% of the time I’ve bought your shit.
I mean, do you guys ever think about what you sell?
Pop tarts? Are you kidding me? I would be willing to bet that 50% of the people buying pop tarts are stoned out of their fucking minds.
Just to be perfectly clear on my position, I would like you to know that I enjoy your products. I think many of them are quite tasty, but lets be honest; you guys sell sugar-drenched shit that’s horrible for your body - in fact, it’s actually way worse for your body than pot - and you market this shit specifically to children.
You assholes go as far as putting lovable cartoon characters on the boxes just so that kids will beg their parents for it.

Now, I don’t want you to misunderstand my point, because I in no way want anything bad to happen to your company. Like I said, I genuinely enjoy your products.
There’s nothing quite like being stoned out of your mind at 2am watching a Chuck Norris movie and eating a bowl of fruit loops. Your company and its products have been a part of some very pleasurable moments in guilty eating, and I’m glad you’re around.
All I’m saying is that it’s high time (no pun intended) that you motherfuckers respect the stoner dollar. There’s WAY more of us than you might think, and we tend to get upset about dumb shit like this. There are millions of us, and if we decide that we don’t like a company, they’re going to feel it.
I think if you looked into it carefully, you would be surprised at how many undercover potheads there are out there. Pot smokers don’t all fit into the obvious, negative stereotypes; we come in all shapes and forms - including by the way, the form of the greatest fucking swimmer who ever lived, EVER.
Think about THAT shit for a second..
So in closing, I would like to ask you nice folks to please smarten the fuck up.
I would request that you check the calendar and note that it’s 2000 and fucking 9, and next time you think about getting all uppity about pot you might want to do a quick google search on the facts.

It’s 4:40am here in LA, and I’m going to wrap up this blog and to celebrate its completion I’m going to enjoy one of my personal favorite Kellogg’s products: Eggo waffles.
I’m gonna pop 4 of them bitches into the toaster, and then I’m gonna stuff the bong with some fine, American grown “Train Wreck” and sacrifice the sacred plant to the fire gods in tribute to the unjustly persecuted 8 time Olympian hero. Then I’m gonna get some butter, and I’m gonna smear it on those Eggos, I’m gonna cover them with maple syrup, and I’m going to eat the ever loving fuck out of them.

What’s up world? My name is Malix Angel; I’ve been in love with broadcasting since I can talk (according to my mother). I’ve always wanted to be a voice for the people and here I am, voicing. Just being able to pass a message on or being a source of communication makes me tingle inside :)

J. My heart has been with radio but i'm slowly opening up to television and of course through writing!!!! I say if I can be this voice through different outlets…WHY NOT, right?!

MXyMAG has given me that chance to show all you a side you wouldn’t see from these beautiful women…they are not just “eyecandy” for the eyes, they are more then that, and it brings me joy to see that I’m able to have models/entertainers understood!!! Actually kind of funny how we met/started working together. About 5 years ago or so, while he was working on a calendar, I went to a casting to be one of their models…I didn’t get chosen but Tek say something in me and stayed in touch. Until about beginning of the year he came to me with this position and we’ve been creating beautiful ideas ever since!!!
